- Set the table & sit at the table while you eat. You deserve a proper meal on your own as much as you do when with friends or family. There is something special about sitting at the table and really honoring the meal time ritual.
- Play music while you cook. Music makes everything better! You can set the tunes to suit your mood and dance while chopping!
- Wear lingerie to bed. You will feel pretty even as you doze off to sleep.
- Buy yourself flowers. Do you recall the last time you had fresh flowers? It is usually a special occasion or if you are feeling down or even have an illness. Fresh flowers brighten EVERY day so why not make it a weekly treat!
- Take a bath. Take the time to relax and just be.
- Light candles. Be sure to blow them out….I am a firefighters granddaughter and have had a few hiccups in this area.
- Pour yourself a NICE glass of wine – drink the good stuff. Don’t wait on that special occasion to open that special bottle of wine.
- Take yourself on a date. I was in Chicago on business and there was a show I was dying to see. I asked around and no one was available so I took myself. it was one of the best evenings. I went to my fav restaurant, ordered champagne, french fries, and crab legs! And then I proceeded to enjoy that fab show!!
- Make that steak dinner. On New Year’s Eve this past year, I wanted to stay in and reflect on the year. I grilled a filet, made some veggies, an opened one of my favorite bottles of red wine (see #7). It was a holiday and I was alone. Was I sad? Nope! It was still a holiday and so I treated myself and ate every bite and may have drank every drop…but I’ll never tell.
- Make your own traditions. Let’s just go ahead and call one of the tough ones – you guessed it – VD!!! Yep, Valentine’s Day! (I hope everyone followed me on that one.) So Valentine’s Day can be a real bummer for singles. Host a Galentine’s Day for your besties! My group of girlfriends often have a night to celebrate our friendships and our appreciation for the love we have! And no, not all of my girlfriends are single but we make it happen. And those of us who are single and find ourselves alone on that day – we band together and make dinner and toast to each other!
- Take that trip! For many years, I took a solo trip for one week. I honestly haven’t done it in a while. I also have a dear friend who takes a trip on her own (she is not single) every year. It is wonderful! You learn about yourself, you meet lots of interesting people and you can do whatever, whenever. You recharge and it is not weird at all!!
